Mik Bakker (1997) is an interior and furniture designer with an autonomous vision. Raised in a culturally diverse and artistic environment, with a Dutch father and a Peruvian mother, Bakker’s work reflects a rich and varied background. Bakker’s work seeks to challenge conventional boundaries, reimagining the potential of furniture by seamlessly blending artistic expression with functional design. Through this exploration, Bakker aims to inspire and provoke thought within the realm of interior and furniture design. “The interaction and dialogue between art and design are central to my research and production. How do sculptural forms and imagination relate to the functional criteria of furniture? Is the designed object free or confined? My approach and motivation during the design process revolve around playing, transforming, and exploring beauty. In this way, I strive to develop new perspectives on functionality and aesthetics, creating innovative design proposals.”
