FIRST EDITION

8 September 2020

The First Edition of Accessible Objects inaugurates the platform’s curatorial vision, setting both its format and tone. Bringing together independent designers and creators emerging through nascent practices and experimental projects, the show expands the definition of an “object” — encompassing furniture, painting, photography, and virtual sculpture.

Each participant selected a work that distills their approach to design, materiality, and innovation. Serendipitous correspondences emerge among them — in shared explorations of landscape, the body, and material research. The resulting collection is intimate yet diverse, unified by sensitivity to process and an awareness of context. From cork to alabaster, oak, leather, resin, and canvas, the works in this first edition evoke a quiet softness and an intrinsic connection to nature — a site where materials grow, transform, and take form as art.
Through these objects, we glimpse the processes that infuse our environments with form, function, and strangeness.

Accessible Objects was born out of a desire to render design accessible to everyone, and to offer a strong platform for the next generation of creators to show their work. This inaugural edition is a celebration of the many forms design objects can take, and of the many talents and imaginaries that produce them.
