Plaster, gold foil, light bulb.

Graft is a light that contrasts smoothness - an apparent lack of texture - with the roughness of an abundance of textures. The black mass absorbs light from the outside, while a naked bulb emits a golden beam at its core. The grafted textures that wrap the volume - a tree trunk, sponges, bubble wrap, burlap and a sidewalk - evoke a multi-sensory experience as they are seen and felt in various ways. As the brightness of the bulb emerges sharply against the gold foil as a texture of its own, the textures that wrap the sculpture blend into the darkness.
I dream of seeing graft at the end of a desert canyon, a golden orb in the distance to be discovered differently as you approach it.
