Self-Portrait Reclining, St. Marys, Georgia, 2019 is taken from a current project in progress focusing on the body’s potential to communicate through gesture and touch. The self-portrait is invested in the correlation of labor, land, and migration. Filtering artifacts, relics, and folklore, the image represents a search for performative physicality capable of addressing the historic and contemporary narratives surrounding our understanding of Americana and its inextricable ties to slavery.
