Graft is a light that contrasts smoothness—an apparent lack of texture—with the roughness of an abundance of textures. The black mass absorbs light from the outside, while a naked bulb emits a golden beam at its core. The grafted textures that wrap the volume—a tree trunk, sponges, bubble wrap, burlap, and a sidewalk—evoke a multisensory experience as they are seen and felt in various ways. As the brightness of the bulb emerges sharply against the gold foil as a texture of its own, the textures that wrap the sculpture blend into the darkness.
